When Apostleship of the Sea (Gibraltar) contacted its fellow organisation in the UK to enquire after help in providing seafarers’ welfare they were put in contact with the Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB).

"Promoting the provision of the highest quality welfare services to merchant seafarers and their dependants in the United Kingdom."

The principal objectives of the Board are assessing the welfare needs of merchant seafarers and their dependants and the co-ordination of the work of the societies and charitable organisations concerned with the provision of welfare services.

The Board has over forty Constituent Member Charities and maintains Port Welfare Committees throughout the UK.

The Board is governed by a Council of Management consisting of equal numbers of representatives of Shipowners, Seafarers' and Nautical Charities.
